Canton Township is ready to begin our three part 2017 road resurfacing program, which includes paving/grinding, chip/seal, and the introduction of a new product called FasBlack. This is in addition to ongoing efforts for large area repair/patch work. We’ve had past success with an effective and cost efficient approach utilizing chip/seal on select roads, which proved to successfully mitigate surface deterioration and reduced reliance on our need for further pothole repair following cold weather. In 2017, we plan to resurface approx. 10.5 miles of our roughly 98 miles of roads in Canton Township utilizing this method, which is about a third of the cost of asphalt. Below is a quick snapshot of the roads being chip sealed. Please see our website for complete details, especially extra information regarding the application process. This year, for the first time, we will be utilizing FasBlack Fog Seal on some of the Township roads. FasBlack is an enhanced fog seal that will help control dust and further seal in the aggregate and extend the life of the chip seal. Further notices will be given to residents on the roads that will be receiving the fog seal process. Further updates will be made regarding our grind/repave plans for this year.
