Township Officers

Trustees - Christopher B. Nichols

Chris is a Canton South graduate and holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Malone University. He works as the Director of Facility Costs at First Communications. Chris was appointed by former Ohio Governor Robert Taft to the Clean Ohio Council, to represent Ohio’s 1,308 townships. While on the Clean Ohio Council, he was involved in the awarding of over $120 million in grants to help clean up and redevelop Ohio’s Brownfields.

Chris has spent many years serving as the public address announcer for the Canton South Football and Basketball teams and the Malone University Football team. He is also a member of the Canton South Rotary and a graduate of the 19th class of Leadership Stark County.

Chris enjoys serving as your Canton Township Trustee and the opportunities it provides to meet new people and help them through the maze of government. He looks forward to working with you to continue making Canton Township a Proud Family Community.

Trustees - Bill Mittas

Bill is the newest trustee having been elected in November 2011. Bill and his wife, Vicki, are graduates of Canton South and have four children- Sara, Samantha, Paige and Noah.

Bill has a Business Finance degree from the Ohio State University. Bill earned his Law Degree and Master of Taxation from the University of Akron. He is a member of the Stark County Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association and the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives(NOSSCR). Bill has been a practicing attorney for over 20 years and is a partner at the Marsh & Mittas Law Office.

Bill looks forward to serving the residents of Canton Township and welcomes the opportunity to be a voice for their concerns. Please feel free to call Bill with any questions.

Trustees - William C. Smith

A Trustee since 2002, Bill lives in the southwest portion of Canton Township with his wife Diana, of 34 years. They have two married children, Bill and his wife Amy and Jennifer with husband Jerry. They enjoy their grandchildren Taylor, Logan, Anthony and Joseph. Bill graduated in 1974 from East Canton High School. He has been in business at Smith’s Waco Market for 33 years. After purchasing the store, he and Diana lived above the store for several years as the business grew. Bill also manages several commercial properties through Smith Properties.

Bill holds a Commercial/Instructor rating in Lighter than Air, Hot Air Balloons. He has been a pilot for over 20 years and serves on the Hall of Fame Balloon Classic Committee and is the field announcer for the event.

Bill is a past member of the Canton South Rotary, Jaycees, K of C, Canton South Athletic and Band Booster Clubs. He is also a past board member of the Canton South YMCA. He currently serves on the Canton Local Citizens Advisory Committee and has served on the Canton Local Long Range Planning Committee, as a levy chairman and on many levy committees. Bill is an Honorary Board Member of the East Central Ohio Food Dealers Association, where he serves as Chairman of the Board and on several other committees.

Fiscal Officer - Ronald L. Smith

Ron is a life resident of Canton Township along with his wife of 28 years, Susan Eberhart Smith. They have 3 children, Andrea, P.J. and Marty as well as 3 grandchildren, Nicholas, Tino, and Sadie. In their spare time they enjoy spending time with friends and family.

He graduated from Canton South High School and recieved a B.S. in Business Management from the University of Akron. He remains active in his community and has served as President of the Canton South Rotary, President of Wildcat Summer Baseball and as a Board member of the Canton South YMCA.

Ron will continue to work hard to keep Canton Township financially sound.
